De vier grootste Nederlandse banken, ING Bank, Rabobank, ABN AMRO en SNS Bank hebben onder toezicht van de Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) verplicht deelgenomen aan de stresstest van de European Banking Authority (EBA). De resultaten zijn vrijdag 15 juli 2011 bekend gemaakt.
Wat houdt de stresstest voor banken in?
In de stresstest wordt een soort rampscenario losgelaten op een bank om te zien wat daar de impact van is en wat dat doet met de financiële stabiliteit van de bank. Heeft de bank genoeg buffers om de klappen op te vangen of moeten hij geholpen worden?
De scenario’s zijn bijvoorbeeld een hoge werkloosheid, geen economische groei, instortende beurzen, crisis op de huizenmarkt én afschrijvingen op schuldpapier.
In de stresstest rekenden de banken een voorgeschreven stress-scenario door, om vast te stellen of zij daaruit voortvloeiende verliezen kunnen dragen. Dat is beoordeeld aan de hand van de core tier 1-ratio ook wel kernkapitaal, een indicator van de solvabiliteit van banken. Het is vooral van belang dat het zogenoemde kernkapitaal van een bank in geen enkel scenario onder de 5 procent zakt. Dit is een soort magische grens voor de core tier 1 ratio waar een bank boven moet blijven.
Resultaten stresstest Nederlandse banken
De vier Nederlandse banken die hebben deelgenomen aan de Europese bankenstresstest van juli 2011 blijven alle ruim boven de hierboven beschreven minimumnorm, een core tier 1-kapitaalratio van 5,0 procent. De gemiddelde core tier 1-ratio van de vier banken bedroeg per eind 2010 10,6 procent, en neemt in de stresstest af tot 9,4 procent. Volgens de DNB, “Komt de Nederlandse bancaire sector daarmee sterk uit de Europese stresstest, ondanks een stevig stress-scenario”.
KAS-Bank, Van Lanschot en NIBC, de moeder van NIBC Direct hebben vrijwillig meegedaan aan de stresstest.
